The Shoreline Unified Board of Trustees has selected Matt Dunkle to serve as Interim Superintendent for the 2025–26 school year.
Matt Dunkle is a seasoned educator and district leader with over 20 years of experience, having served as Superintendent of Forestville Union, Secondary Director at Santa Rosa City Schools, and Principal of El Molino High School. His early work at the California Department of Education and in Washington, D.C. focused on equity, charter oversight, and strategic funding. Known for student-centered leadership and collaboration, Mr. Dunkle has led initiatives in school safety, academic achievement, and staff development. He holds degrees from The George Washington University and Case Western Reserve University, along with credentials from Sonoma State.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Mr. Dunkle now lives in Sonoma County and enjoys spending time with his sons, Jack and Max. He also enjoys reading, live music, skiing, and time at the beach. His contract as full-time Interim Superintendent was approved at the regular Board meeting on June 17th, 2025, and we are excited to work with him in the year ahead to ensure Shoreline Unified remains a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all students and families.
The SUSD Board of Trustees will begin their search to fill the long-term superintendent position later this fall with the goal of having a new leader in place for the 2026-27 school year. The board is prioritizing a search process that will include multiple ways for students, staff, families, and community members to share what qualities and priorities matter most in our next superintendent. We will share more about the process and the community input opportunities once everything is finalized this fall.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we take this important next step together

We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause. Please take care.
In community,
Adam Jennings
Superintendent
