College Planning

Hi Parents,

As we approach senior year, I wanted to share some information about what student and families can do to prepare during the summer and fall semester for college and scholarship applications.

Summer

  • Finalizing College Research and College Lists. It is important to enter senior year with a plan of where you want to apply.

  • Organize Financial Information. Make sure taxes from 2024 were filed.

  • Start working on college essays. Having some drafted material by the start of senior year will give students ample time to proofread and edit any writing needed for college applications. UC Personal Insight Questions can be found here, and the Common App Prompt for private and out of state colleges can be found here.

  •  Sign up and take the SAT or ACT if any school you are planning on applying to requires it. REMINDER: UC and CSUs do not require or accept any test scores.

Fall

  • Students will attend senior meeting with Ms. Kobe in August/September.

  • College Application and College Essay workshops will take place throughout the fall semester primarily during Tutorial.

  • Attend Financial Aid Night (parents & students) to complete financial aid applications. Date TBD.

  • Submit UC and CSU applications by December 1st, 2025.

  • Local Scholarships will be released in December/January. More information about how to access and apply to scholarships will be available in fall.

  • Senior Year grades do matter. Although schools will not necessarily see your senior grades when you apply, they will see and consider final grades and can revoke admissions offers if a D or F grade is earned.

There will be many opportunities for students to receive support with the many facets of senior year. Please reach out if you have any questions on how to support your student during senior year.
